Together with our global team of talented, young test riders, we've developed what can only be described as an incredible 2-stroke motocross bike! From the new frame and WP shock to the improved motor and redesigned bodywork, just about everything is new, making for a seriously fresh 2025 GasGas MC 85 17/14 at Lings GasGas.
At its heart, the MC 85 boasts an improved 84.9 cc 2-stroke engine, continuing to utilize the latest 2-stroke technology for unrivaled performance in the competitive 85cc class. This engine features a new cylinder head, spark plug, and ignition, contributing to a 120g weight saving over the previous generation while boosting overall performance, particularly in bottom to mid-range power. This reduces the need for riders to feather the clutch in heavy track conditions. The crankcases are manufactured using a high-pressure die-cast process with thinner wall thickness to save weight while retaining strength. A reliable, lightweight hydraulic system from Formula ensures consistent clutch play even in the toughest conditions. The kickstarter and 6-speed transmission complete the build of this highly competitive machine.
The chassis is fully redesigned for 2025, providing improved handling and stability. The all-new frame is constructed from hydro-formed chromium molybdenum steel, offering precise flex and rigidity to enhance the MC 85's known agility. The engine is strategically repositioned inside the new frame to distribute its weight more effectively, and a flatter steering head angle leads to easier cornering for young riders. The swingarm sees a 300g weight reduction thanks to an improved casting process, maintaining exceptional strength and optimized flex. The subframe is a one-piece polyamide glass fibre reinforced aluminum component, providing specific rigidity for outstanding control and feedback.
As well as the increased performance, the riding experience is considerably improved too. Slimmer ergonomics and a handlebar bend created specifically for younger racers inspire confidence and make laps at the track so much more enjoyable. State-of-the-art 43 mm WP XACT AER forks with new settings offer exceptional damping and comfort, with 278 mm of travel. The left leg features an air spring easily adjusted with a pump to accommodate rider preference. The WP XACT PDS monoshock is fitted, allowing the rear end to stay stable over smaller bumps while soaking up bigger hits with ease, offering 289 mm of travel. Braking is handled by floating calipers from Formula, paired with a Galfer 240 mm front disc and 220 mm rear disc for confidence-inspiring stopping power. Lightweight and robust black Excel rims (17-inch front, 14-inch rear) are laced to CNC machined hubs, fitted with Maxxis Maxxcross MX-ST tyres for exceptional stability and traction. New, larger footrests enhance grip and prevent mud build-up, with an improved mounting concept to prevent catching in ruts. Tapered Neken handlebars with a new modern bend provide exceptional vibration dampening and stability. The end result of all the changes is a bike that delivers incredible performance and rideability for such a small motorcycle. And if there's one thing that we can guarantee, it's that kids will absolutely love it!
